Wooaudio Fireflies Headphone Amplifier with the upgraded tube power supply-1st Generation. Condition is lightly used with new tubes.
These are the famous Wooaudio Fireflies; specifically the near-impossible to find 1st Generation Fireflies with the Optical Input. Included is the optional upgraded tube power supply.
They are beautiful to look at but are even more beautiful to listen to. The new tubes have only a few hours on them, barely broken-in. I kept the old tubes to roll into other tube amp kits that I'm working on. These beautiful units have always had a soft cloth cover over them when not in use.I don't recommend leaving a cloth on them unless you are extremely careful because there might be a fire risk if the cover is left on when the tubes are powered and hot. On the other hand, being covered when not in use means they look brand new, not a single scratch or scuff mark. My desk isn't big enough for all this gear. The Fireflies need a new home. Lest you despair that this 1st Generation Wooaudio WA-7 headphone amplifier is obsolete, let me explain why it's better than the newer 2nd-Generation Firefly. The 1st Generation Firefly had an Optical Input. This was lost when they upgraded the DAC component. The way I see it, I would rather use the Optical Input with a TOSLINK cable plugged into my Apple MacBook headphone jack. I have a Benchmark DAC2 HCG when I need a DAC. I don't need to use my Fireflies as a DAC.
I never understood the reasoning behind swapping the Optical Input for a newer DAC board. Anyone who bought one of these probably already has at least one DAC. For awhile I had an AudioEngine Wireless Receiver plugged into the RCA jack inputs. That worked well with my iPhone. I was going to throw it in but I can't find it.
The 2nd Generation Firefly has RCA jacks but I think they for Output instead of Input. The Firefly photos were taken with a USB cable plugged into my new iPad. I was testing it out to compare the new iPad to my older MacBook and TOSLINK cable. Neither the TOSLINK optical cable nor the USB cable is included. The only cord included with new Fireflies was the DC cord to link the power supply to the amp. It didn't come with an AC power cord but I threw one in. You will need to supply your own input cables.
You will also need your own headphones. The original manuals are in the box. Make sure you read the manuals before you set them up. This pre-owned and loved Firefly and matching tube power supply, WA7d + WA7tp, comes with nearly new stock tubes: Sovtek 6C45 x2 and Electro Harmonix 12AU7/ECC82 X2.These tubes are all made in Russia. The Firefly Serial Numbers are 03151596d(dFF0221) and 0315375(tFH0449). They are boxed in the original boxes with all the original high density foam inserts. I cleaned the glass tops with Monster Screenclean and wrapped them in clean white butcher paper before packing them.
I suggest you do too, but be careful, they are heavy and slippery. Never use an ammonia product on fine glass like this! It is absorbed and permanently discolors glass. If you made it this far you probably already know that. Thank you for reading this long description. Please feel free to message me directly with any questions or offers you may have.
